Flower Power

Flower Power (#9) started skating for the Santa Cruz Derby Groms when the program originated in 2009. She showed up with very little skating experience, but with lots of hard work was able to make it onto the Gromshells full-contact travel team the first year try-outs were held.

Throughout her skating journey with the Gromshells Flower has traveled all over California, to Oregon and Arizona for tournaments, as well as Washington, Nebraska, and Colorado to compete in the JRDA Championships alongside her teammates. As a junior skater, Flower tried out for the JRDA Team USA - West and was able to compete in the first ever JRDA World Cup along with other teams from all over the world! A few years after the World Cup, try-outs were held for the JRDA Southwest All-Stars, where Flower was able to compete in the first ever Jr. Roller Derby Olympics hosted by AAU and JRDA.

Last year, Flower graduated from junior derby and began coaching the Grommets and now coaches the Home Teams. She loves being able to teach and share her love of derby with future generations as well as reminisce on back when she too was just starting roller derby. As well as having started coaching when she aged out, Flower also started skating with the Santa Cruz Derby Girls Boardwalk Bombshells. One of her big derby highlights with the Bombshells was getting to travel to A Coruña, Spain for play-offs this past August.

Flower is now skating for her 11th season of roller derby and couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds for her coaching the Groms and skating with the Santa Cruz Derby Girls!
